Keep in mind, the following is just a few of the many things to know about these trucks and their colorful history.
While many monster trucks today are built from the ground up with competition in mind, that wasn’t always the case. In fact, the original monster trucks were simply pickup trucks that were outfitted with larger than average wheels and suspensions. Of course, that evolved over the years into the massive trucks that we have today. Monster trucks were first built in the late 1970s, and since that time their popularity has only risen. Today, most monster trucks are actually dune buggies rather than pickup trucks.
Modern monster truck competitions include everything from vehicle demolitions to racing, but the initial trucks were invented with a much simpler purpose in mind. People were simply trying to break the record for world’s largest truck, and they figured using large wheels was the easiest way to do that.
After they were initially created, some of the first monster trucks that become popular were Bigfoot and King Kong. Today, the most famous monster truck in the world is Grave Digger.
These are just a few fun facts about the history of the monster truck, but there is much more to learn about these terrific vehicles. What are some of your favorite monster trucks of all-time?
